A Walk Through Prague. Actions, Performances, Happenings 1949-1989, VVP AVU, Prague 2017, 495 pp. A Walk Through Prague provides an insider's guide to the location of over 150 performances, happenings and other action projects that took place in both the city's tourist-frequented places and its half-forgotten nooks between 1949 and 1989. This mapping offers a new way of viewing the aesthetics of the urban milieu, unveiling the social and political context of the age, and the gradual shift in sites from public spaces in the city's center to its periphery. This alternative guide through time and space is intended for anyone who wants to learn more about post-war Czech art and peek beneath the current carapace of the city.

Sometimes in a Skirt

Pavlína Morganová (ed.)

In a Skirt - Sometimes. Art of the 1990s (Někdy v sukni. Umění 90. let), exhibition catalogue, Moravská galerie – Galerie hlavního města Prahy, Brno – Praha 2014, 302 pp. The publication accopmanied the exhibition In a Skirt Sometimes and presented the work of fourteen Czech female artists as well as the transformation of Czech visual art in the 1990s. The introductory text places the selected artists' work within the broader context of 1990s art history, complemented by a commented "genealogy" of Czech women's art by Martina Pachmanová, which demonstrates the radical change in the situation of female artists after 1989. Following this, Alice Červinková analyzes the broader social and historical context of this change from a sociological perspective. The work of individual artists is collectively presented in the second part of the publication, which includes interviews by prominent Czech theorists (Martina Pachmanová, Lenka Lindaurová, Marta Smolíková, Helena Musilová, Ivona Raimanová, Gabriela Kotíková, Zuzana Štefková, Terezie Nekvindová, and Pavlína Morganová) with the exhibiting artists.
